MAN Truck & Bus

MAN Truck & Bus is a German car manufacturer based in Munich that has been producing commercial vehicles, buses and diesel engines for more than 100 years. The letters MAN in the name represent the German term Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg and the lion symbol in the brand logo is again a reminder of Büssing, which MAN took over in 1971. MAN Truck & Bus is part of the MAN SE holding, whose majority owner (over 75% of shares) is the Volkswagen AG Group.

History of MAN

The story of the MAN brand began in 1915, in the town of Lindau on Lake Constance. At that time, the company cooperated with the Swiss commercial vehicle manufacturer Saurer. Their first act was a 3-ton MAN-Saurer truck, closely followed by the first buses, which carried not only passengers but also Reichstag consignments.

In 1918, MAN separated from Saurer, production moved to Nuremberg and 6 years later the first diesel truck left the local factory.
