Long-distance drivers often spend several weeks in their mobile home. It is therefore only logical that they want to have maximum comfort in the cabin and, if possible, at least a little cozy.
Manufacturers of trucks and tractors are in agreement with them and therefore improve the interiors of cabins with a number of useful accessories and functions, often available already in the basic equipment, or possibly optional. These tweaks concern not only the driver's comfort, but often also his safety.
The seat is the basis
The vast majority of working time in a driver's life takes place in the seat. It should be ergonomically shaped, sprung and provided with a coating of comfortable material. However, the possibilities go even further: for seats with massage function or genuine leather upholstery.
Space not only for sleep
In addition to the time spent in the seat, the driver also needs some space to rest, relax and replenish energy. As far as the rest is concerned, of course, the bed plays a key role, which is also available in some manufacturers in above-standard dimensions and equipped with high-quality mattresses made of clever materials.
Another important thing is storage space, both for clothes and personal belongings, as well as for food - drivers can not afford to build in restaurants, not only for time reasons, every day. Today, almost every tractor cab is equipped with a refrigerator, and many also have a microwave. In some of the more luxurious cabins you can also find a coffee machine, a small washbasin with running water or a built-in safe.
Other, not necessarily necessary, but definitely pleasant equipment of the cabin may include, for example, a swivel passenger seat, which in cooperation with a folding table will create a quite friendly illusion of a small living room.
Several manufacturers also take into account the driver's physical condition, so they have built into their cabs the possibility of a miniature fitness center, thanks to which drivers can stretch their stiff muscles.
Electronics dominates today, even in the world of truck driving. The cabins are therefore equipped with various navigation and communication systems, flat screen TVs, high-quality audio systems, intelligent air conditioning systems, internet connection and sometimes even their own satellite dish with receiver.
Increasingly advanced features
Of the features that make the driver's job easier, cruise control, a heated steering wheel, as well as heated rear-view mirrors and a windshield are a matter of course today. However, heating or ventilation of the driver's seat is also available, as well as a special safety assistant that prevents microsleep.
There are also many other assistants available to take care of driving safety. These are, for example, lane keeping assistant, brake assistant, preventing the vehicle from hitting an obstacle, built-in on-board computers or various systems that connect the vehicle not only with the vehicle fleet and its operators, but also with service.
